There are so many talented ladies out there demanding our attention, and they sure as hell have mine. These are just a few that have been hogging my listening time recently.
Ryn Weaver - This chick is sick. That just about sums her up. She splits her time between NY and LA working on various projects including some for other artists (at the mo' with Charli XCX). Her Promises EP is pretty phenomenal for a debut, be sure to tease yourself with her hit OctaHate first. You'll be hooked.
The entire thing is available for streaming on soundcloud... Yay!!
Demi Louise is a local gem. She's from Melbourne but is currently in the UK playing various shows and gaining a crowd. I came across her stuff at work the other day and she's got butt-loads of potential.
Have a lil listen to Ruins. Shit clip (sorry bae!) but pretty song.
Weekend breaks down into a distinct rock and roll beat before jumping back into it's pop rhythm core. The lyrics "We can fall in love for the weekend" are described by the singer herself as "an ode to the nostalgia of how, despite how sick we were or how insane things get, we can take moments from the craziest times and glorify them as being absolutely perfect.” And perfect it is.
“‘Weekend’ winds up sitting in a weird place for me, caught between the exhilaration of ‘you could bring me to life’ and the reality that we were only fooling ourselves into thinking we were alive while we distract ourselves from reality.”
P.S If you like her facebook you get two free downloads.. FREEBIES!! YAY! https://www.facebook.com/veriteohverite
Meg Mac - I should have blogged about dear old Meg MONTHS ago but better late than never. She was discovered on Triple J's unearthed and won herself a spot on the Falls festival line up last year. Since then there has been no stopping her burgeoning star power. I won't say too much on her now as I will be seeing her live in a couple of weeks and will review her properly then. In the meantime though please acquaint yourselves with this soulful number to fuel your jealousy at my attending her sold out show. =)
