Your Cover's Blown: MØ 'Say You'll Be There'

Danish pop singer MØ has been around for a few years now. After releasing her first single 'Maiden' back in 2012, and EP Bikini Daze in 2013 and featuring as vocalist on Avicii's 'Dear Boy' from True, the girl is finally releasing her debut album No Mythologies to Follow.

The second single from the album is 'Don't Wanna Dance'. Be sure to check out the clip for it below.

As for her cover... may I present to you MØ in a sexy rendition of Spice Girls 1996 hit Say You'll Be There.

Your Cover's Blown: Summertime Saddness feat. Lana, Miley & Angel Haze

Lana Del Rey's Summertime Sadness has been taking over our airwaves recently, however what you are hearing is not the original album version. It is actually a remix by French house music DJ Cedric Gervais. This radio remix is a great version but I personally do prefer the pensive tempo of the original.

The music video for the California starlet's trip hop single is a sepia-toned tribute to a 'Romeo & Juliet' type tragedy. The clip was directed by Kyle Newman and features his wife, Hart Of Dixie star Jaime King. It revolves around the doomed relationship of King and Del Rey's characters as one attempts to live without the other. The cinematography is to die for. Dramatically inspiring and perfectly suited to the tragic tale.

Iggy Azalea's home girl Angel Haze lent her vocals to an acoustic version of the Born To Die single a few weeks back. Whilst it was great to hear something different from Haze I would have loved to see her add an element of her own signature style to the cover. After all the whole point of a cover is (or at least should be) to make it your own.



Yesterday for BBC1 in the UK, the most controversial celeb of the season Miss Miley Cyrus also covered the song. She truly did nail it. It's so easy to ignore the talent when distracted by the on (and off) stage antics of the singer. Yet Miley does continue to remind us that she can actually sing. I particularly love her rendition of the bridge at around the 3min mark. Check it out below. (Beware of wagging tongues).

Your Cover's Blown: Atoms For Peace 'Got To Give It Up'

Thom Yorke's supergroup Atom's For Peace is back with Before Your Very Eyes directed by Andrew Thomas Huang. The stop-motion clip features Yorke emerging from a sandy desert singing whilst the landscape constantly changes.

 A Making Of was released to show the animators and make up artists bringing the clip to life.

Meanwhile, at a recent gig in Mexico, Atoms For Peace covered Got To Give It Up. One of my all time favourite tracks. Yorke enchanting vocals are the perfect fit for this Marvin Gaye classic.

Atoms For Peace are currently touring for AMOK. I hope they fit in some Australian dates!

Your Cover's Blown: Alex Clare 'When Doves Cry' (Prince)

One of the most overlooked artists of 2011/12 is (undoubtedly in my mind) Alex Clare. You may know him as the feature artist on Rudimental's hit 'Not Giving In', also featuring John Newman.

There are so many excellent cover versions of Prince's 1984 hit When Doves Cry. I guess it's pretty easy to make another great version of an already existing classic.
Alex Clare's cover takes the track in a slightly different direction to all the others. Featuring on Clare's debut album The Lateness of the Hour, When Doves Cry is a contemporary dubstep remake showcasing the artists soulful vocals.

The Lateness of the Hour was an impressive debut for Alex Clare and I can't wait to hear what he's been working on since.

Your Cover's Blown: Feat. Lorde, Kings Of Leon and Bastille

I love a good cover. It's a great way to refresh a tired old song that perhaps you have over-listened to (as i tend to do with tracks I love).

This week Kings of Leon surprised us all with a fantastic cover of Robyn's Dancing On My Own and can i just say they kill it. Watch below:

Back to this side of the world and NZ songstress taking the world by storm Lorde covered Kanye West's Hold My Liquor in the sexiest way possible. So hard to believe she is only 16. I can't wait to see her live next month.

Side note: I would shave her bald to get that hair. What a stunner.

 Now I'm not to sure how many country/western fans there are reading this but if there are any I recommend that you check out this cover of Miley's Wrecking Ball by The Gregory Brothers. Such a good version, even though it sounds a little like the theme to a Beverly Hillbillies sequel. Covers like this are great at displaying the versatility of a track.

Your Cover's Blown: Vance Joy covers Adele's 'Rolling In The Deep'

As a fan of the humble cover version (no, Glee is not my favourite TV Show... but it does have its moments) my favourite radio segment is Triple J's Like A Version. For my international followers this nation-wide radio program invites bands/artists to perform a cover version of their choosing.
