Favourite Music Moments in Movies: No. 7: Halloween Special!

TRICK OR TREEEEEAT!?!?!

Halloween isn't really celebrated in Australia, but it is catching on. It's not a major past time of ours so it will never be as big as it is in America, but it is gaining traction, which makes me happy =)

As adults, we have definitely missed out on the genuine Halloween experience living in Australia so we gotta make our own fun. So tonight I had a bunch of friends over to eat spooky treats and watch a childhood cult classic... HOCUS POCUS!

As you can tell from the photo below I struggled to even get a proper pumpkin and had to use a butternut squash!... It worked well enough though. No complaints!

Lucky for me I am good friends with Baking With Gab founder who always treats me to her delicious works of art like these little meringue ghouls!

As we drifted into a food coma the movie fun began.

For those of you that aren't familiar with Hocus Pocus, I am not going to ruin it but I highly recommend you give it a go. It's one of those nostalgia-inducing films that takes you back to your childhood. There is a hell of a lot of 'virgin talk' in the movie, jokes that I probably didn't get when I was younger. Another reason I appreciate it more now, 20 years on from it's original release!

There is a great scene where the three resurrected Sanderson Sisters hypnotise all the adults in Salem with a catchy musical number. The hit track they use is the classic blues hit from Screamin' Jay Hawkins I Put A Spell On You. This song has been covered by so many artists since it's original release in the 50's. Everyone from Jeff Beck, Katie Melua, Marilyn Manson, Nina Simone, She & Him and my personal favourite Creedence Clearwater Revival.

Winifred (Bette Midler), Sarah (Sarah Jessica Parker) and Mary (Kathy Najimy) perform the song with such hilarity unprecedented amongst the other covers. But then again that could just be because everyone loves a random (seemingly unrehearsed yet perfectly choreographed) musical number for no apparent reason.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!
