Ok. Let me preface this review by saying that I have a problem with listening to recommendations myself. When Lana Del Rey released her debut album it took me months to listen to it regardless of the fact that everyone I knew was raving about it, I guess I didn’t trust that it was as fantastic as people claimed it to be.
How wrong I was.
I wish I could have learned my lesson but alas that brings me to Jake Bugg. His debut eponymous album is nothing short of brilliant. Rock n Roll with a touch of blues and regular comparisons to the incomparable Bob Dylan. An inspiring feat for the 19 year old.
The lyrical content is genius, though Bugg can’t take all the credit there. He had assistance from some of the major songwriters in the UK including Iain Archer (responsible for ‘Run’ by Snow Patrol) and Crispin Hunt (credited writer for ‘Drumming Song’ by Florence & The Machine).
Stand out tracks include ‘Slide’, ‘Lightning Bolt’ and ‘Two Fingers’.
Bugg is no Beatle, but his successful premiere performance warrants a listen.
